About Us
We work with clients across Canada in the academic, environmental, health, labour, nonprofit, political, tech, and urban affairs sectors, and we get results.
We are skilled communicators with long histories of championing causes we believe in.
Since 2019, Champion Communications & PR has partnered with people, organizations, and causes that strengthen our communities. Our team combines decades of experience in journalism, politics, and communications to deliver clear strategies, compelling stories, and trusted advice. By staying intentionally small, we ensure every client benefits from direct collaboration with our principals. Whether it’s navigating a crisis, training spokespeople, or building long-term communications plans, we bring focus, creativity, and dedication to every project, and we measure success by the impact our clients achieve.
Our Team
Champion was founded in 2019 by two former journalists who believe great organizations deserve great stories.
Annalise has nearly 20 years of combined communications and journalism experience in fast-paced, high-pressure environments. This includes the Alberta Legislature, where she worked as press secretary for Premier Rachel Notley’s Minister of Justice, and Calgary City Hall, where she was a beat reporter for the Calgary Herald and host of a popular civic affairs podcast.
After a decade of reporting, Annalise left the world of journalism in 2018. She brings an extensive understanding of media relations, writing, issues management, crisis communications and communications strategy to clients at Champion. She still writes regularly at GoOutside.ca.
Annalise loves the outdoors, and her spare time is spent in the mountains hiking, camping, backpacking, biking, skiing and exploring with her husband and two young boys.
Alex reported for the Globe and Mail and the CBC in Europe before returning to Calgary in 2004. He has spent the years since working in communications in the arts, energy, political, tech and non-profit sectors.
Alex has run communications for progressive parties and candidates, municipally, federally, and provincially over the last 20 years. He also worked as Special Adviser to Premier Rachel Notley’s Minister of Treasury and Finance. Alex has navigated organizations through crises large and small.
Founder of TEDxYYC and the first Director of ArtsVote, Alex is passionate about Calgary and moving the city forward amid a changing world. His non-work hours are spent outside, walking his dogs, riding his bike(s) and flyfishing.
A recent convert to the world of communications, Christina spent almost a decade in journalism at CBC, before joining Champion in 2025. She has previously produced stories and interviews for The National, spent five years covering Canadian politics with the Parliamentary Bureau in Ottawa, and recently spent three years at the forefront of launching a new digital streaming video channel for the public broadcaster.
She brings a wealth of experience with video and social media strategy and creation, having piloted numerous social video projects throughout her career and led CBC Calgary’s visual teams through a transition towards more social-first video.
When she’s not working, Christina loves discovering underrated gems in Calgary’s food scene with her husband and, like many Filipinos, enjoys bringing friends together for karaoke.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to our principals for a discovery call or coffee, or for more information about our services and approach.
